Bob Schoemann started out working at an auto repair shop called Do-It-Yourself Auto repair located at 200 Gibson Street behind the Broadway Market when he was just 18 years old. Bob started out as a mechanic's helper then became a mechanic, once learning the mechanical aspect of vehicles Bob started doing collision work at the shop, learning how to repair body damage and paint vehicles. While doing mechanical and collision work the repair shop bought a tow truck so Bob began learning how to tow cars.
Bob was trained by the owner's son how to do towing as well as a friend of the owner learning different techniques of towing. Bob became the main tow truck driver of Do-It-Yourself auto when the owner's son left. Bob had his hands full now doing 3 main jobs he was on the go constantly repairing vehicles, painting vehicles and towing them. The shop applied to AAA for a contract which they received, now Bob was towing most of the time and doing road service like jump starts, flat tires, lock outs and gas delivery that didn't leave much time to do any auto repairs.
The AAA contract required to be available 7:00am to Midnight 365 days a year which Bob worked every day, now that's dedication you rarely find these days. After a year or so Bob began training other tow truck drivers that the owner hired to give Bob a break. One day the owner of Di-It-Yourself auto came to Bob and told him he was closing, Bob said I'll open the day after you close so Bob bought a tow truck and shop equipment that went up for auction and opened the next day keeping the employees and starting Schoemann's Road Service. Since then Bob has went on to train nearly 30 tow truck drivers and received a degree from Georgia State University as an expert in towing.
